BFSC: It's Over

Ugh! My pants are so wrinkled.  It was a long ride to the zoo!

tube top, pants, & purse ~ H&M, wedges ~ Nine West, earrings ~ Jewelmint

I have come to end of Jasifer Lions Club Big Fat Summer Challenge **sad face**!  It has been fun being apart of it all with so many stylish women.  The last item on my list was to wear was something "strapless."  I have to say that I do not like the strapless look on me, but it had to be done.  I wore this ensemble on a zoo outing with my family.  Of course, my husband thought I was overdressed for the occasion, but I consider it one of my "casual chic" looks.  Good luck to all of the women who participated in this challenge, and a big kudos to Jennifer, who was the spearhead of it all.  See ya next time fashionistas!

BFSC: Wear A Bodycon Outfit

dress ~ Forever21, clutch ~ Ross, sling-back pumps ~ Libby Edelman, earrings ~ ilovepoparazzi.com

First, I want to thank everyone who voted for me for the Essence.com feature that I was apart of yesterday!  I am one of the top "100 Naturalistas on Instagram." It was such an honor to find out that I was included in a group of so many beautiful women with natural hair.  Thanks to everyone who supports me.  I love you guys:-)  Check out the feature here if you have not seen it.  Now on to the outfit post!

I can't believe the Big Fat Summer Challenge is coming to an end!  With one more outfit to go, I have to say that I feel sad that it will all be over soon.  It has been so much fun stepping outside of my comfort zone, and this challenge has really inspired me to step outside the box in my fashion selections.  I have no problem wearing the "bodycon" style because it is the perfect look for my curves, but I am not a fan of wearing shorter length bodycons.  I decided to take a chance and go a little shorter for this challenge. When I tried on this dress in Forever21 I knew that I had to have it!  It was perfect for me with the long sleeves, and I think my new favorite color is going to be purple.  I now realize that it is okay to go a little shorter sometimes with my skirts.  I have stumpy legs...LOL, so I don't wear a lot of short skirts, but I think I pulled it off!  What do you think?

My Fatkini: BFSC

When I decided to join the Big Fat Summer Challenge I knew the most difficult part of the challenge would be to "wear a two-piece."  I understood this for three reasons. First, I am a high school teacher, and I must be very careful about what I share on the Internet (especially when it comes to swimwear).  Next, I knew that my husband would be uncomfortable with me posting pictures of myself on the Internet in swimwear! Lastly, I didn't know if I was brave enough to show my flaws.  It is one thing to wear a swimsuit on the beach when no one is looking, but it is another thing to post your picture on the web for people to analyze and ridicule.  I loved this challenge so much that I had to go for it, and I must say that I am so glad I did!

I found this amazing two-piece swimsuit on Ebay.  This suit is out of stock but ebay is always a great place to look for items like this.  Here is the link, in case this seller adds any similar suits in the future.  I refused to pay an exuberant price for a bathing suit that I am probably only going to wear once!  I recommend purchasing a high-waisted swim bottom, and finding a bikini top of your liking separately.  I have seen high-waisted bottoms at many places such as Ebay, Walmart, H&M, and Lane Bryant.  One thing that I wish this bikini top had is more SUPPORT!  The top is padded, but it would have been perfect with an underwire (you can't have it all...right).  In addition, I also had to take the bikini top to my seamstress for her to take it in because it was way to big.  I knew that I had to wear a coverup, but I still wanted my bathing suit to be visible.  So, I decided to use my sister's scarf, that she probably doesn't even realize I still have.  Overall, I was pleased with my "fatkini" look, and I feel very liberated and proud.  Curvy girls rock!

BFSC: How to Wear An Ankle-length Maxi

skirt ~ thrifted, tank top ~ Ashley Stewart, sandals ~ Rack Room, Zara Shopper bag, belt ~ Michael Kors

Maxi skirts come in a variety of styles, colors, and prints.  This A-line skirt has always been very popular during various time periods, but has resurged as a trendy style in the last couple of years.  I do not see a lot of full-figured women wear the ankle-length maxi, so I became intrigued with this style while I was shopping during the "I Love Thrifting Day" event.  I must say that I never imagined that this style of maxi would be flattering on my body type, or that I would love it as much as I do.  As soon as I tried this skirt on I knew that it would add the perfect twist to complete the "Wear A Maxi" portion of the "Big Fat Summer Challenge."

I will say that you have to be careful with this style of skirt because it can give you a "slovenly" or "aged" look.  This style really favors tall women with slender frames, but there are a few tricks that a curvy fashion forward girl should consider when trying this style of maxi.  I would recommend wearing a close-fitting top and to cinch the waist in with a belt.  This will help to give this look the appropriate proportions so that you send off a very "stylish" feminine vibe, instead of an "I borrowed this skirt from my grandma's closet" vibe.  So what are your thoughts about the ankle-length maxi?

Instagram Recap: New York

Hello all!  Here are some pictures from my Instagram feed that I took during my vacation to NY last week.  Make sure to follow me on Instagram @NaturallyFashionable.

It can be hard deciding what to wear on vacations, especially to a place like NY where you will be doing a lot of walking, shopping, and sightseeing.  There are three items that I would always recommend packing, and that it is a pair of leggings, a bodycon skirt, and plenty of tank tops.  All of these items can be worn from day to night and they are so...so..comfy!  I had an amazing time with my family on this trip.  I cannot wait to see what the rest of this summer has in store for me!

"I Love Thrifting Day" Recap

The “I Love Thrifting Day” event that I co-hosted with Ashley (MissFabEllis) last Saturday was such a great experience.  I met lovely women, discovered new bloggers, and had a great time thrifting.  The day started out with a meet and greet at Relish Café and ended with two thrift store visits.  We laughed, talked, and shared our thoughts on thrifting and why it is a movement that is definitely here to stay!  I only began thrifting two years ago, but it has become one of my favorite pastimes.  It is a way to find unique items, develop personal style, and save money.  Thrifting can be overwhelming, but I will leave a link to a post I did on some helpful tips to consider when thrifting. I would encourage everyone to venture into a thrift store because it is truly a fun experience.

Paws for Cause was the first thrift store that we visited to kick off “I Love Thrifting Day.”  We had a blast surfing through the racks looking for hidden treasures.  Fashion blogger Demetrice, of Impr4less found the cutest harem style pants in this store, and I cannot wait to see how she rocks them!

The Salvation Army was our last stop and I didn’t pick up any clothing items, but I found a fabulous belt that I really like, and hubby scored a brand new shirt from Banana Republic.  The Salvation Army is one of my favorite places to  thrift because they often have discount days.

I really enjoyed hosting this event with you Ashley!  You rock!

Palazzo Pants Trend

ASOS crop top, ASOS palazzo pants (sold out) but similar here and here, Zara handbag, Ross animal print sandals, Jewelmint earrings

I am going to knock two off the "Big Fat Summer Challenge" list with this outfit post.  I want all of my true readers to think about how many times you have seen me bare my arms...hardly ever right!  I am not fond of my arms in any way, and I try to hide them if at all possible.  The main reason why I do not like to wear sleeveless garments is due to a birthmark that I find to be hideous, but this is what God gave me, and I am on the journey to fully except it.  Even though I have this issue I knew that it would not stop me from completing the "wear something sleeveless" part of the challenge.  In fact, I will be wearing many sleeveless tops this summer!

I paired this super cute crop top with a pair of high-waisted palazzo pants that I have only worn once.  I really need to break out of the habit of wearing only certain items in my wardrobe one time, especially these chic pants that I just adore.  As you are aware, I love high-waisted bottoms, so this part of the challenge was fun for me.  Palazzo pants have become very popular again, and this is a style that I will continue to wear forever!  Thank you all so much for taking the time to read my blog and leave me wonderful comments.  Stay tuned because my next post will be on the "I Love Thrifting Day" event that I hosted with the lovely Ashley, creator of the blog FabEllis. So until next time, stay fabulous.

Hi-Lo: Big Fat Summer Challenge

Jeans ~ Forever 21, Top ~ New Look, Loafers ~ Shoes.com

I decided to rock my fro on the fourth, along with this high-low top that I picked up from New Look ages ago.  I haven't found a high-lo skirt or dress that I am crazy about, but I adore high-lo tops!  I have this top in two colors and I wear  them often because I just enjoy wearing them.  So, I have officially checked off the "Wear something Hi-Lo" part of the Big Fat Summer Challenge:-)  I hope you all had a great holiday.
