BFSC: How to Wear An Ankle-length Maxi

skirt ~ thrifted, tank top ~ Ashley Stewart, sandals ~ Rack Room, Zara Shopper bag, belt ~ Michael Kors

Maxi skirts come in a variety of styles, colors, and prints.  This A-line skirt has always been very popular during various time periods, but has resurged as a trendy style in the last couple of years.  I do not see a lot of full-figured women wear the ankle-length maxi, so I became intrigued with this style while I was shopping during the "I Love Thrifting Day" event.  I must say that I never imagined that this style of maxi would be flattering on my body type, or that I would love it as much as I do.  As soon as I tried this skirt on I knew that it would add the perfect twist to complete the "Wear A Maxi" portion of the "Big Fat Summer Challenge."

I will say that you have to be careful with this style of skirt because it can give you a "slovenly" or "aged" look.  This style really favors tall women with slender frames, but there are a few tricks that a curvy fashion forward girl should consider when trying this style of maxi.  I would recommend wearing a close-fitting top and to cinch the waist in with a belt.  This will help to give this look the appropriate proportions so that you send off a very "stylish" feminine vibe, instead of an "I borrowed this skirt from my grandma's closet" vibe.  So what are your thoughts about the ankle-length maxi?

  1. I have a skirt this length that I have yet to wear because I feel it's an awkward length on me. Was thinking of shortening it, but now I don't know. I think pairing it with sky high heels too and ultra modern accessories can make it less granny like. You have done this look very well here.

  5. I agree with Sing I have a few skirts this length and they just look weird on me, I always end up wearing them as a dress instead. I am not that tall so I have to make sure my length is a midi or a floor length maxi. BUT you my dear look fabulous!

  6. Thanks for sharing these tips for wearing an ankle-length maxi! I've been shying away from them for quite some time because I didn't think it would flatter my frame. I think I may try them again, but this time with a fitted shirt, belt, and heels. I definitely need heels for some height!

This look works well for you! You look lovely =)

  12. I love this skirt and you look so awesome! I have been trying to find a way to wear a maxi to a nice event without the grandma element but never thought of tucking in a top. Mine has a drawstring so we'll have to see how it looks. Thanks for the inspiration!
